Introduction

Urolithiasis: morphological and constitutional profile of stones at a university hospital in Senegal

Urolithiasis is the presence of one or more stones in the urinary tract, a frequent disease that affects between 4% and 20% of the population depending on the country. The epidemiological characteristics of urolithiasis are constantly changing. They reflect changes in nutritional behaviours, health conditions, environmental factors, or the prevalence of diseases that predispose to the risk of urinary lithiasis.2 The physical and chemical analysis of urinary stones provides information that can contribute to effectively understanding the mechanisms involved in their formation. Therefore, it should be the first step in the aetiological exploration of lithiasis.

Single-sitting endourological management of retained ureteral stents at Groote Schuur Hospital: a four-year retrospective study

On the contrary, if the stents are left for a prolonged time, the patients start experiencing complications, necessitating endourological techniques to resolve them. Retained stents were a common challenge among the low socioeconomic status, low education, and patients from rural areas. Physician-related factors, like the lack of proper counselling of patients, also contributed to “forgotten” retained stents.

Contribution of the transperineal prostatic biopsy: descriptive study of the first cases at the Hôpital Général Idrissa Pouye, Dakar

Prostate cancer constitutes a significant public health problem. It represents the most common cancer among the male population after lung cancer. According to the 2020 report of GLOBOCAN, 4 919 895 men aged 50 and over have been diagnosed with prostate cancer during the last five years, representing a partial five-year prevalence of 22.7%.1 According to estimates from the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), 1 414 259 new cases were recorded worldwide in 2020 with an age-standardised rate equivalent to 30.7/100 000.

Indications et Résultats des Cystectomies Totales au CHU Le Luxembourg de Bamako

Total cystectomy is the gold standard treatment for non-metastatic high-grade infiltrating bladder tumours, as well as for superficial tumours that have resisted treatment with immunotherapy or endovesical chemotherapy. The aim of this study was to determine the indications and results of total cystectomy in the urology department of CHU Le Luxembourg.

Stentless pyeloplasty for paediatric ureteropelvic junction obstruction: a 15-year experience at Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital

Congenital UPJO is a common cause of obstructive uropathy in children, with an incidence of 1 in 500 to 1 250 live births. It is the most common cause of antenatal hydronephrosis, and it can result in end-stage kidney disease. At least 14 cases are referred to the Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital annually with an antenatal diagnosis of congenital UPJO. Congenital UPJO can be treated either conservatively or surgically, depending on factors such as symptom progression, severity of hydronephrosis (AP renal pelvis diameter), differential renal function (< 40%), and deteriorating differential renal function (decrease of at least 10%) on a MAG3 renogram. The classic option for surgical treatment of UPJO is dismembered pyeloplasty, which can be done through open, laparoscopic-assisted, or robotic-assisted approaches.

Novel curved ureteric access sheath holds the potential to aid anatomical placement and allow adjustment in the renal pelvis: a feasibility study

UASs are commonly used during fURS and were first developed in 1974 by Takayasu and Aso as a “guide tube” for the scope. The European Association of Urology (EAU) guidelines state that “UASs allow easy and multiple access to the upper urinary tract (UUT) and therefore significantly facilitate URS.” UASs facilitate the repeated insertion of the fURS, protect the fURS, improve irrigant drainage, improve visibility, and reduce intrarenal pressure and operating time during retrograde intrarenal surgery (RIRS). A few studies have suggested that UASs can improve stone-free rates.
